Joseph Christian Leyendecker (March 23, 1874 – July 25, 1951) is quickly becoming one of Renovo's favorite illustrators. We've had a number of pieces featuring his work in the studio this Spring, which prompted us to want to do a little research. Most notably, Leyendecker worked as a premier magazine-cover illustrator for more than 50 years, within which he produced 322 covers for the Saturday Evening Post. His visual development of such icons a the New Year's Baby, Santa Claus, Boy Scouts, and the American soldier went a long way in molding a nation's vision of itself and its culture. Leyendecker is also credited with popularizing the gift of flowers on Mother's Day, via his illustrations for the Saturday Evening Post.
